62nd Emmy Awards, heartfelt
Sunday night’s 62nd Emmy Awards, August 29, 2010, proved to be spectacular. It was hosted by Jimmy Fallon, the comic relief, which was a good balance due to the humbling seen that night.
Some winners were over the top with happiness, but to be expected and well deserved. The majority, though, seemed quite humbled, appreciative and their thank you, acceptance speeches, short and sincere – that was refreshing.
The women’s gowns were impeccable, well most. No fashion critic here so mum’s the word. Readers can view the photos and decide for themselves!
Julia Ormond, Kyra Sedgwick, Claire Danes, among others, seemed heartfelt in their acceptance speeches, more like a ‘chat from their heart.’ It made one forget that most were actors, instead, rather real people humbled by such an award.
George Clooney was one of these real people. He hit the nail on the head when he spoke about the Hope Humanitarian Award. Without sounding braggish he mentioned growing up knowing Bob Hope and family, as his aunt Rosemary Clooney was an entertainer-singer and knew the Hope family. So as a child George remembered visiting Mr. Hope.
What was most important to George Clooney was the idea that the work he and many others have done that represents the Humanitarian Award, should not stop. He said that the spotlight should be on the Haitians, the Sudanese, people in the Gulf Coast…
Clooney could not stress enough how each of us needs to keep the work going. For the award and the work not to just represent a personal moment, but rather a continual energy be put forth in helping those who need it. A personal perspective, this writer feels, was felt by all. In other words, as Clooney put it: “Keep the spotlight burning.”
