Dinner for Schmucks – the summer’s must see side-splitting comedy
This weekend, run…don’t walk to the theaters to see “Dinner for Schmucks.” If you laughed till you cried with “The Hangover” don’t forget your tissues because you’ll definitely need them. I don’t want to give away too much and there is no plot summary that could possibly due this movie justice. I can’t in good conscious ruin a single punch line…this movie packs so many jokes and they must be experienced in the context the brilliant writers intended.
Like many movies we’ve seen before, Tim (Paul Rudd) is an everyday guy trying to get ahead in the world, succeed in business and build a life for the woman he loves until he meets Barry (Steve Carell) who systematically destroys every part of Tim’s life in the simple and niave way that Steve Carell brilliantly portrays.
What isn’t typical is the hilarity that ensues. Just about the time I think they’ve gone just a little too far or fear the movie is going to turn cliche, predictable or start to drag, something comes out of left field and I’m once again clutching my abs.
As with all our favorite comedies, this movie makes us laugh but also helps us look at the world around us (and the people in it) a little differently.
The only problem with this movie is if you see it once, you’ll have to see it twice. I found I was laughing so hard at one joke, I’m not sure what else I missed!
