Head to Head Challenge: Jason Castro vs Kimberly Caldwell

Every week, The Hot Zone features two Artists in our Head to Head Music Challenge.

Last week, Champion and Former American Idol contestant Jason Castro battled it out with Rock band Honor Society. Ultimately after 38,105 votes were cast (check weekly statistics HERE), Jason Castro and their fans showed they have what it takes to continue on as the champion for the third week.

It’s a new week and a new challenge can Castro and his fans do it yet again?

This week, Champion Jason Castro challenges Kimberly Caldwell. It’s a former American idol challenge. Season two finalist Kimberly is prepping for her first major label debut album due out later this spring. She recently released her debut single “Mess of You” on iTunes. We think Kimberly Caldwell and her fans have what it takes but are the Jason Castro fans more then they can handle? Ready, Set, VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey there, Kim C. fans… this looks like a great competition this week… We thought the Honor Society fans would show up in droves, but it wasn’t much fun voting against them… I love Kim Caldwell, but Jason is my man… :)

  2. Herb says:

And Kim is my woman, Becky!! Let’s get this on!!! Kim C fans are everywhere now….Kim’s gonna take this title….for sure!!

  3. Rich says:

Kim is a TOTAL sweetheart & always KIT no matter how busy she is. So I will Always vote for her & support her in any way I can :)

  4. Love the response to this! I’ve always loved Kim and of course, I have tons of respect for Castro fans for beating out the people they have. Best of luck everyone!

We have mad love for Jason and have been supporting him. KC fans are giving us a run. May the best one win :)

  6. kali says:

check out Jason’s NEW SINGLE “that’s what I’m here for” on I-Tunes with “Somewhere over the Rainbow” He’ll be singing BOTH tonight on the Bachelor Wedding!!!!! Jason and Molly LOVE our guy!!!

  7. LC says:

I really think something is seriously wrong with the counts on this poll. When I voted for Jason Castro his count did not go up, but Kimberly’s did. Is it fixed or something? Maybe it should be checked for accuracy.

  8. Teri says:

Both are beautiful songs, fit for a beautiful occasion. I will be watching Jason sing tonight. I can’t wait until Jason’s album comes out in April. Vote for Jason :)

  9. If anyone has issues with voting on the poll, please contact PollDaddy. The voting is not handled by The Hot Zone – we just display the results and set up the poll itself.

  10. Kris says:

How can a poll be rigged for Kimberly if she’s currently not winning? PollDaddy limits the amount of votes per option per IP within a set time. So if your vote wasn’t counted for Jason, maybe someone at your IP already voted for him within the timeframe so it didn’t count your vote. It’s a third party voting software so it can’t be rigged for anyone.

  14. Teri says:

Glad to see these 2 AI finalists coming out with their albums soon.

  15. Way to set an example says:

Pretty clear to see why Jason wins every week. Look at the history of voting in the poll. Consistent votes per person per day with +/- 500 votes dividing them. Then, all of a sudden in the course of one night, Jason takes the lead by like 6,000 votes? Uh, yeah, I’m sure that happened without the help of a PHP script that constantly adds votes. Google “hacking PollDaddy polls” to see what I mean. Sorry, but there’s NO WAY these results are legit. The massive lead just came out of nowhere. I know it’s not the fault of the people who set up the poll but if you keep having Jason Castro vs. someone, whoever is doing this on his behalf will likely keep running this script. I haven’t seen past polls but I’m guessing he beat everyone else by a wide margin? Just a guess!

  16. Becky says:

Actually we only beat Honor Society by a wide margin and that, I think, is because most of their fans are teenagers who can’t be bothered with online polls… too much else going on in their busy lives… The fact of the matter is that Jason just has MORE FANS… yep, he does… just check his twitter following. Jason has almost 41,000 followers. Kim has just under 6,000. That right there is the answer to your question… Mine might be how are you managing so many votes, but I know that you are as passionate about your artist as we are about ours. Don’t try to pin our votes on some kind of whatever you call it. Remember that when you point your finger, there are three fingers pointing right back at you. The Lovehammers gave us a great competition. They were classy opponents. Bring back the Hammerheads…

  17. Bastiaan says:

If you look at the statistics you´ll see that Jason won big twice, but there were very few votes then, so there was just one side voting. Against the Lovehammers (57% win), there were a lot of votes; over 90k and the margin was much less. So I don’t believe there was any cheating involved. I still find it very weird how the lead came to be overnight (my night that is). Although 53/47 may not seem like much of a margin, there have been a HUGE amount of votes, so this difference is already something like 7500 votes. I find it very weird, it’s like one night (US day) the Jason fans kept going and all Kim fans slipped into a coma. I find that hard to believe. So I don’t know what to think of it. Yes, Jason has 7 times more followers, but they didn’t vote before. Am I supposed to believe suddenly an additional 2000 or 3000 followers started voting? And now the lead seems to remain stable. So something very weird happened that night

Still, I gotta give credit to Jason’s fans of course. They have been able to keep him winning. But I think us Kim fans can be proud for giving them a run for their money despite being outnumbered. We showed Kim we are good fans, willing to fight for her. And the fight is not over yet, of course. Maybe Jason fans will slip up :P

  18. melinda says:

    Well said Becky!

  19. I'm not saying all the votes are fake says:

I’m not arguing that there is no way that Jason has more fans. Yes, he has more Twitter followers. But, in all fairness, Jason was on Idol five years after Kimberly and Twitter existed when he was on the show and he’s had his account for longer. Twitter followers aren’t the end-all, be-all determination of your fan base. I’m a fan of Jason’s. I’m on his fan boards. I like his EP. I listen to “You Can Always Come Home” a lot. Love it. I’m absolutely not trying to start an argument about that. I’m just saying… for neck and neck competition to be happening and then a 6-7k lead developing in one night? Nothing about that seems a bit “off”? I would completely think it was legit if it was like a 1… 2, even 3k lead. But one night and 6 thousand votes… just saying. I think these two artists deserve an honest competition, that’s all. I don’t think my questioning of how the rapid massive lead sprung up out of nowhere deems Kim’s whole fanbase “unclassy”. NOWHERE have we criticized Jason. Just simply saying… if someone is using a script or cheating the system, uncool. These people and their fans deserve better.

In response to WTSAE and Bastiaan…

Quite honestly I understand your frustration about the voting and the sudden big jumps that leave you wondering what the hell just happened…Jason’s fans have felt the same way when a big run on votes has happened against us over every one of these head to heads we have participated in. We have also questioned the methods used by others and we have been assured by TPTB here at the Hot-zone that everything is LEGIT. Kimberly’s fans have given us our toughest challenge yet and we knew that we would have to come together as a group and work our butts off to keep up and pull out every ounce of energy we had to get as many people voting for as long as possible. The DreadHeads and the other Jason Fan Groups have always been known for their organization and tenacity when it comes to doing whatever they need to do to keep Jason’s name out there and to support him in the most positive ways that we can. We do NOT GIVE UP no matter how far we fall behind. We remain focused on our goal even if it means losing some sleep. I was hoping we could manage to at least stay up to 50-50 with Kim’s fans and hopefully edge her out on the last day if we stuck with it and didn’t give up thinking it was impossible. I was getting discouraged in the beginning when you first blew by us, so we had to re-evaluate our strategy, because you guys seemed just as crazy and determined as we were when it came to voting for our idol. I guess during that burst that you both describe we planned on aiming for the stars and giving it all we could to try and catch up and then to give us a cushion so we could rest. We actually ended up amazing ourselves and proved that nothing was impossible if we just kept plugging away. This contest is not over yet…and anything is possible if you put your mind to it. We proved it the other day! Now I’m probably going to catch hell from my dreadhead friends for shaking my pom poms trying to lift your spirit of competition, just when we were starting to catch up on our sleep, breathe normal again and get the feeling back into our arms!

  21. Suzanne says:

My vote is for Kim…loving the live performance video.
But I checked out the “Official” music video for mess of you…what’s up with that mess?
They should have saved their money and just went with the live version.
Dosen’t make sense with her vs her + getting together with herself at the end…?
at least the album pic looks good…i’ll buy that.

  22. AFan says:

Who’s running a script? I can’t believe over 1000 votes in less than an hour for Kimberly.

  23. Bastiaan says:

I wonder if somehow the system ‘forgets’ to register some votes and then adds them all in one burst. Because Kim seemed to have received a few thousand votes in about 15 mins. I find this very strange too. Of course I’m happy she is back in the lead, but it is very strange. I think this 50/50 is much more realistic than the big lead you got. But in this competition there have now been 2 unexplained, very strange surges in votes. I really wonder why this is and I can’t believe that these have been ‘natural’. Still, one for each cancel each other out. Although your surge was a little bigger :P Now let’s hope there won’t be any weird unexplanable events and we see which team has the strongest finish

In any case, it’s been a great competition with an amazing amount of votes!

  24. kriket says:

Funny how ALL the Castro fans are being given “cooling off” periods of 1-2 hrs. No Votes during our prime voting hrs doesn’t appear to be affecting the Kim fans? Or is it?

  25. Becky says:

Well, sigh… I couldn’t vote at all from about 3 o’clock yesterday until about ummm… 5:30 today… being as how I was in Tulsa to see Jason at Flytrap… Let me tell you guys Jason is the BEST live artist I have ever had to good fortune to see/hear… and altho I feel bad a bit not being able to vote all that time, I would not change circumstances one bit. I hope everyone here get the chance to see him in concert with his full band starting April 17 in Dallas. I know I’ll be there… One of the perks of living 90 miles from Dallas… :)

  26. Colleen says:

Whoa! This is messed up. I cast a vote and my pick went down by one and the other went up by more than fifty. Not worth my time.

  27. Bastiaan says:

Been trying to vote once an hour all day and it keeps saying “thank you, we have already counted your vote” which means I apparently also voted less than hour before. It claimed this too this morning when I woke up. So this really sucks, I thought it just said you can vote no more than once an hour. How come now I’m not allowed to vote more than once per what? 15 hours?

  28. Suzanna says:

Sometimes, I am wondering if we have overwhelmed this system with so many votes. Huge gains, then some being blocked and I have also had the same thing happen when I try to vote at times.

  29. JBSuester says:

I agree, Suzanna…And the way things JUMP IN SPURTS…it’s always a shock to the system…either GOOD or BAD. One moment one side is extremely frustrated after all the hard work they’ve put in, and the other side is all excited. And then everything flips upside down, again, overnight, or even in a matter of hours, and both sides are caught sitting there in shock again! It has been an unpredictable roller coaster ride of emotions for everyone, and I know that I am exhausted as I’m sure many others are as well. It has been a long, hard, grueling contest and because of all the craziness, many of us are left wondering if we can actually trust the numbers we see before us. What if they’re NOT ACCURATE and we let our guard down or give in too soon? How do we really know what the FINAL count will be, until the poll is actually closed? Maybe there IS something wrong with the tally system because of the quantity of votes. IT HAS BEEN A VERY STRANGE WEEK…just sayin

  30. LC says:

I brought up the voting discrepancies days ago and was assured that all was legit. When some say it is unbelievable that Jason receives thousands of votes in one day, I will compare that with the thousands I see Kim has gotten overnight when I go to vote in the mornings. Maybe Kim just has more West Coast voters and they vote at night. She is a worthy opponent to be sure. And, Jason was not on Twitter until mid last year, not while on Idol.

  31. cctru says:

Hopefully everyone is still keeping this respectful. I think many of the fans are fans of both artists, but probably have one they prefer. As far as Jason having more/less fans – I think the example of twitter shows that Jason has more fans that are on twitter – and therefore maybe more computer driven.
I have no knowledge of anyone using some uber-voting tool – but I must admit that a group of us fans do communicate online and we come vote in a block – so the numbers can go up pretty quickly when many fans are voting. I guess I’m more tolerant because Jason is winning – but again, hopefully no hard feelings. The KC fans showed great dedication in this poll – as a matter of fact I think I’ll head back right now to make sure I get another vote in – never know how those vote counts can jump!

  32. Becky says:

I think I may sleep until Monday… whew… Can we just retire Jason undefeated now?

  33. marrie says:

Yay! Jason won again! Kim fans you were wondering about the big jumps that developed overnight. Well, Jason HAS MANY FANS IN ASIA, like me. We vote when everyone there on the other side of the world is asleep.

  34. Bastiaan says:

I have even seen these ‘spurts’ of a few k votes occur in a matter of 10-15 mins, on both sides. That’s just not possible. But what bothers me the most, was the inability for most KC fans to vote for the last 24 hours (from the time she was up 4k votes til the end). Even after a cool-off period of 6-7 hours, it still would not register the votes. I’m sure the numbers shown could not be trusted during the contest. Maybe the numbers shown now are correct. But there are far too many oddities and such and problems that arose during the contest to truly make it legit in my eyes. I still think there must’ve been something like a glitch in the system several times over the course of this contest, on both sides

  35. kali says:

I commend the Kim Caldwell fans for a good battle! There was definate ‘weirdness’ going on…but following the dreadheads thread there WAS a lot of fans voting for Jason from many countries! and all received “cooling off periods” from polldaddy that would last hours! tres aggravating! on both sides. It was a close battle but Dreadheads (and the other Jason fanbases) Do NOT give up ever! The tighter the competition the more of us come out of the woodwork. This was the tightest yet, and for that I commend Kim’s fanbase.
